Poker Bankroll Importance

Among the four ingredients that are essential for a successful gambler, bankroll management tops the list. Whether it is money management or indulging into a strict disciplinary pattern, bankroll is the starting point for all.

People often take the plea of luck or other obnoxious theories like law of averages to hide their failure. The truth is that most of their failures could be attributed to their failure of bankroll management.

Small bankrolls are always the greatest disadvantage in a game of poker. It curbs your natural instincts and makes you play rather cautiously. You cannot make moves that you know to be fruitful in your inner hearts and just remain in the game without taking full advantages of the opportunities that come by.

Many talented poker players have faced their doom due to lack of fixing a reasonable loss limit and winning goal. It is your bankroll that determines both these limits. If you let down your last chip without setting a loss limit, you will often end up penniless. On the other hand you should expand your session only till you achieve your winning goals.

Normally your loss limit should be in the range of 50%-60%. This is the best way of elimination of playing with scared money. However, a loss limit below 25% would not be prudent either. Always pack in at less than your loss limits when you cannot find the right spot.

Your winning goals should be determined before your initial bet and may range at 20% to 30%. When you reach the goal, you can still play until you start losing again. Stop at the first loss after winning your goal. You will go back home with a heavier bankroll with you.

Gambling is tough and it is better to win small amounts consistently rather than look for jackpot wins every time.
